Achieving Change in the New Year

Jennifer Hunter • August 8, 2026

WAITING FOR THE "RIGHT TIME" IS A RECIPE FOR FAILURE

Every year, it's the same pattern: people declaring that this will be their year. January 1st becomes the magical date when everything will change. But fast forward to February, and the motivation is gone. Old habits creep back in, and the goals are abandoned until next January.

Be Specific About What You Want

"Get healthy" is not a goal. A goal is specific, measurable, and time-bound. Instead of "get healthy," try "I will work out three times per week for the next 90 days." Specificity creates accountability.

Start Before You're Ready

Most people wait until they feel motivated to start. But motivation follows action — it doesn't precede it. Start before you feel ready. Take the first step even when it's uncomfortable.

Get Support

Change is hard to do alone. Find a coach, a training partner, or a community that will support and encourage you. At Redemption Fitness, we specialize in helping people make real, lasting change — not just in January, but all year long.

Track Your Progress

What gets measured gets managed. Track your workouts, your nutrition, your sleep, and your energy levels. Seeing your progress in black and white is one of the most powerful motivators there is.
